Wow, Quarantine was a huge disappointment. So much for being the year’s big Halloween movie.
I just got home from campus, and saw the following story in my Sci-Fi Wire news feed.
Is it just me, or does that sound like a ripoff of Repo!? Come now, Hollywood, it was bad enough when you started remaking every single Japanese horror movie you could get your hands on. Don’t start concept-robbing the few good North American indie production houses, too.
Just got back from seeing the new Hulk flick. I was pleasantly surprised by it. While it’s certainly no Iron Man, it stands head and shoulders above the last movie, and even outshines some more recent Marvel duds (Spiderman 3 & X-Men 3 come to mind).
The good: The effects weren’t as over-the-top as in the previous Hulk, they did a good job of capturing the solemn drifter vibe of the TV series, Tim Roth & Ed Norton are a schweet matchup (though I could have used more of the real things and less drawn out CGI combat), and the cameo at the end was cool.
The bad: Although the effects were of a higher quality than Ang Lee’s Hulk, they went a bit overboard with the increasingly clichéd “boss fight” as the actiony climax. Also, the Lou Ferrigno appearance felt forced.
Overall: Not too shabby. Avengers should be cool.
